The scripture tells us that we can all prophesy as long as it brings edification, exhortation and comfort to the church, but those with a true gift of prophecy are led to speak that which the Holy Spirit leads them to speak. There is a great need for modern day prophets to speak to a backslidden people steeped in their sin and rebellion!
In my life and spiritual journey with Jesus I have heard very few true prophets who would preach the truth and speak out what God wanted to say to His people! Most had warm and fuzzy Messages of peace, safety and prosperity even leading people to give to their ministries, promising them a large return on their gift! "These are False Prophets!"
The prophet is like the rudder of a mighty ship with their words spoken to the body of Christ, they give direction, repentance and correction where it is needed and exposed by God! David Wilkerson was one of the last true prophets of God always honest in his prophecy and sincere in his heart, he grieved over and wept for the people of God! May God give us men who will speak the truth in love to God's people!
But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all, he is convicted by all. And the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you. I Corinthians 14:24,25
