Moses, a type of Christ led the children of Israel out of bondage from Egypt into a desolate wilderness on a fourteen-day journey to the land of milk and honey. It wasn't long before they began to whine and complain like children sometimes do and these things were written for us as examples not to follow.
You would think that after 40 years in the desert seeing God's miraculous power they would have repented and would have given Him praise and thanksgiving! But unlike us (LOL) they were stubborn and stiff-necked! Throughout the journey they committed idolatry, gross sexual immorality, tempted Christ and complained, not that we would ever stoop so low, and multitudes were destroyed by demons, twenty-three thousand dropped dead in one day!
This is a warning to us who are on a journey with Jesus who has led us out of the bondage of sin and death to a land of new things, hopefully the old things have passed away. We mustlearn from Israel's mistakes and keep our hearts and souls purified so that we don't fall into sin and rebellion again after we have received the knowledge of the truth!
Now all these things happened to them as examples, and were written for our admonition, (instruction) upon whom the ends of the ages have come. I Corinthians 10:11
