Then Saul said to Ahimelech the priest of Nob, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day?" I Samuel 22:13
Then Saul said to Ahimelech the priest of Nob, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day?" I Samuel 22:13
David had fled from Saul, he and 400 malcontents and went to the priests of Nob for supplies. They gave him bread and Goliath's sword and then again, he fled into the wilderness.
One of Saul's men, Doeg, a gentile was there the day David received provisions, so Saul confronted the priests but didn't believe them and ordered his guards to kill them, but they wouldn't do it, so he ordered Doeg to do it and he killed 85 priests and their families and every one of the city of Nob!
It is interesting that although Saul couldn't carry out the command to wipe out the Amalekites, he could have his men totally destroy the priests and the people of Nob without any remorse!
Also, Nob, the city of the priests, he struck with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, oxen and donkeys and sheep with the edge of the sword. I Samuel 22:19
