For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds says the Lord. Jeremiah 30:17
We know that God heals sickness, disease, and infirmity, but within this scripture, God is speaking of wounds implying that these are of the heart. Remember the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Wrong!
It is amazing how words can wound us, even a simple statement of how we look or about something we have done, or when someone intentionally tries to hurt us. Verbal abuse is real and people live for years with these wounds in their hearts that eventually begin to fester! (Becomes infected, rotten, or bitter)
I bet if you think back upon your life these words that wounded you will come up into your memory. Eventually, if not dealt with they will turn into bitterness and can even cause sickness and disease, especially autoimmune diseases. If you can feel the pain, ask the Lord to forgive the person who spoke these words and receive the blood of Jesus to wash away your bitterness!
Pursue peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord; looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root (sharp point) of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this, many become defiled. Hebrews 12:14,15
