Then Saul said to David, "You are more righteous than I; for you have rewarded me with good, whereas I have rewarded you with evil." I Samuel 24:17

David seemed to finally convince Saul that his intent toward him was good and not evil, and Saul went home while David journeyed again into the wilderness where he sent his men to ask for supplies from a rich sheepman named Nabal.

When David's men approached Nabal and asked for provisions he vehemently said, "Who is David and who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters!" Obviously, he knew who David was but denied him anything. The young men returned to David and told him what Nabal said, and he was livid!

Being reviled and deeply offended, David told his men to arm up and gird on their swords as he was going to destroy Nabal and all his people for their unwillingness to accommodate he and his men!

David said, "May God do so, and more also, if I leave one male of all who belong to Nabal by morning light." I Samuel 25:22
