For those who have the gift of giving there is no selfishness, they give as the Spirit leads them with no apprehensiveness! Others in the body are not so sure about giving as they struggle with the tithe and whether or not it is for today's New Testament church.
The tithe of the Old Testament still carries a blessing but is that God's will for our giving today under a new and better covenant? The apostle Paul explains God's plan for His people to give in II Corinthians 8:13-14: For I do not mean that others should be eased, and you burdened; but by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may supply their lack; that their abundance also may supply your lack that there may be equality. The divine plan is for every need in the body to be met thereby having equality!
My personal belief is for the believer to be led by the Spirit in his giving, if by giving the tithe or by being led by your heart, one must hear God and be at peace! So be blessed and not stressed and give so that God can bless you with all of His spiritual and physical blessings!
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. II Corinthians 9:6-8
