For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. Colossians 1:9

The will of God is something we can all know for our own personal lives. When people pray, "Lord, if it's Your will, do this or that?" It tells me that they are just shooting in the dark, not knowing the will of God in their circumstance!

Paul prayed for the church to be filled with the knowledge of God's will so that they would have wisdom and spiritual understanding. King David would ask God if he should engage the enemy before a battle, so how do we know God's will? First you must be quiet and still before Him and meditate on His word. His will is His word, so it is important to know it.

This is why it is so important to journal, write down what you are praying for and ask for His will in that situation, then wait for Him to answer. Ask Him for a scripture to confirm His will for you and for someone else to also confirm it to you. This is why He said when two or three are gathered together in His name, He is there.

"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." Matthew 7:7,8
