Ask any shepherd about the care and feeding of sheep and most will answer, "It is a hard and never-ending ordeal." This is why God refers to us as sheep, the only animal that requires a shepherd.
Sheep are not very smart, and they are very timid at times, easy to scare and helpless when they are wet and heavy with wool and roll over on their back, that is called a cast sheep. The shepherd has to lead them to green pastures lest they eat the grass down to the ground until there is nothing left, this is why cattle ranchers hated sheep.
For sheep to drink they must have calm, still water because the rushing water scares them, and they won't drink. This is why we as the sheep of God's pasture must rely on Jesus, the Great Shepherd for our care and provision!
And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
