When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Does your teacher not pay the temple tax?" And he said, " Yes." Matthew 17:24

The temple tax, also known as the half shekel, was a tax paid by Israelites and Levites for the upkeep of the temple. Jewish males over the age of 20 were required to pay the tax, which was equivalent to two days wages.

Even though He said that the Sons of God were free from the tax he told Peter that unless they offend the Jews, they would pay it. Today tithes and offerings cover the overhead of most churches, many of which are exuberant! We are approaching very dark and dangerous times in which the body of Christ needs to be about their Father's business of making disciples and not making people comfortable!

Jesus warned His disciples that it would be just like the days of Noah with people eating and drinking and marrying and giving in marriage, in other words living like there is no tomorrow! Evidently Jesus didn't have any money to pay the tax, so He told Peter to go to the First Bank of Heaven and make a withdrawal! The same account that we as believers can draw from!

"Peter, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you." Matthew 17:27
