A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1

One day, years ago, I was at an auction with my dad, and there was a man present who had a reputation for being unreliable and untrustworthy, often failing to pay his bills. I never forgot that man and the way other men looked at him.

My dad had a good name in the industry we worked in, and he used to play poker with the guys that worked in the plant, and when you try to lose in poker, you can't! When he died, I found a stack of checks that he had won from the men he played poker with that he had never cashed.

Through a multitude of circumstances after my dad's death and my alcohol and drug addiction, I became that man at the auction, a thief, a liar, and totally untrustworthy! But God transformed me into a new man with a new name, a born-again disciple of Christ!

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
