I like the analogy of someone on a raft in the ocean who falls asleep, and when he wakes, he is a long way from where he was! Have you ever drifted away from God? It's easy if you are not paying attention to where you are walking.
It's like the lady a few weeks ago walking down the sidewalk, looking at her cell phone, and stepped into an open manhole! We have to walk the narrow road with Jesus and pay close attention to His leading, else we could wander away.
The prodigal son left his father's house for riotous living and lost everything and ended up in the pig pen! "Been there, done that!" The road is narrow that leads to life eternal, and few find their way because of the detours, traps, and snares along the way! Keep your eyes on Jesus and stay close to Him, and you will be safe!
“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
