Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him—For the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever—That he should continue to live eternally and not see the Pit. For he sees wise men die; likewise, the fool and the senseless person perish, And leave their wealth to others. Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever, Their dwelling places are for all generations; They call their lands after their own names. Psalm 49:5-11

We live in a dangerous time when men think they shall live forever because of their goodness or intelligence or just plain old pride! The rich man is a hard nut to crack, in that they believe they are bulletproof because of their wealth!
A rich young ruler approached Jesus, asking, "Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?" Jesus answered, saying, "No one is good but God, and then He said for him to keep the commandments. The lad said that he had kept the commandments from his youth. Jesus destroyed any hope of the kid's goodness and proved he was a liar about keeping the commandments!
Jesus then said, "One thing you lack, sell all you possess and give to the poor and you will have treasure in Heaven; and come follow Me!" Having riches is not sin; it is when riches have your heart that creates the problem. The rich boy left grieved, and Jesus was also grieved in the boy's decision.
Nevertheless, man, though in honor, does not remain. He is like the beasts that perish. This is the way of those who are foolish, And of their posterity who approve their sayings. Psalm 49:12-13
