Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, and blameless when You judge. Psalm 51:1-4

David, God's man after His heart, the sweet psalmist of Israel, mighty warrior and king of Israel, caught in sin and exposed by Nathan the prophet! Guilty of adultery with his neighbor's wife, Bathsheba, and the murder of her husband, Uriah.

These two sins carried the death sentence, but God forgave David and commuted his sentence with only the consequences remaining that would follow him to the grave! The next actions David took would ultimately set him free from his sins and deliver him. The steps to deliverance are for all who have sinned and need the Lord's forgiveness and mercy!

David acknowledged his sin, confessed it before Nathan, and repented. He exhibited true Godly sorrow, and from that time, he regretted his actions as he suffered through the consequences that plagued him until his death.

Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Palm 51:5-6
