He who exhorts, in exhortation. Romans 12:8

Exhortation refers to the act of strongly encouraging one or urging them to pursue a specific course of action, particularly in relation to spiritual growth and obedience to God. We all need to be encouraged to continue our God given ministries and sometimes even urged to complete what God has given us to do.

I had the gift of procrastination anointed by my high school English teacher, who constantly gave me exhortation to complete my work, and if she hadn't done it, I would probably still be in the eleventh grade! LOL. The apostle Paul was an exhorter who traveled about the Mediterranean encouraging the local bodies of Christ.

Timothy, a disciple and student of the apostle Paul, was exhorted to study, to endure hardship, to preach, to convince, rebuke, and exhort those who were in his charge. Today, however, there is not much encouragement in the body of Christ because of how it is situated, and individuals are usually left to themselves.

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. II Timothy 4:1-4
