The scribes and Pharisees brought to Jesus a woman caught in adultery. And when they set her in the midst, they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. "Now Moses, in the law commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?" John 8:2-5
I wonder how long they watched before they dragged her out and where was the guy she was sleeping with, why didn't they drag him out too? Maybe one of their Pharisee brothers? Anyway, they accused her and wanted Jesus to give them the OK to stone her!
This reminds me of what we are doing when we accuse people falsely of all kinds of ludicrous things! We are all guilty of accusing falsely or even justified in calling out someone's sin but that is when the Holy Spirit usually convicts us that we who are without sin can cast the first stone!
As they were testing Jesus He was writing in the sand, maybe the name of the guy in bed with the woman they caught! So, when they continued asking Him, He stood up and said, "You without sin cast the first stone!" That did it, they were convicted and one by one they left beginning with the oldest. The oldest had been there, done that, but the young ones were new to judging others!
Jesus said to the woman, "Woman where are your accusers, has no one condemned you?" She said, "No one Lord." Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more." John 8:10,11
