In many cases this sacrament has been treated as a dead ritual but in reality, Jesus meant it to be a supper, a time of fellowship for He and His disciples, and He told us in His word to remember Him! So how do we remember Him, as that picture in a million Sunday schools that illustrate Him with long flowing hair, or do we remember what He has done for us?
I believe He wants us to remember what He has done for us through His death, burial and resurrection, the shedding of His blood and His broken body! Jesus bled in seven specific places to give us a complete healing and deliverance from sin, sickness and emotional pain not to mention, He saved our souls from eternal damnation!
So, what is communion? The Greek word for communion is Koinonia, that means fellowship, association, community and joint participation. I like to think of it as a "Co-union" with Jesus Christ!
"This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." Luke 22:19
