When I entered the Marine Corps in 1968 and arrived at MCRD (Marine Corps Recruit Depot) in San Diego, on day one, training began. For six months, we were trained to defeat the enemy with everything available in the arsenal. Every weapon, every tactic, including hand-to-hand combat!
The Marines thoroughly equipped us, but when one joins the church of today, not so much. Spiritual warfare is much different from human warfare in that it is initiated by the Holy Spirit. The churches, however, usually don't train; they preach, and you sit.
Christianity has become, for the most part, a spectator sport with very limited access from the congregation. They are afraid to train, equip, and send someone into the mission field for fear they might start a church and become competition! This was the Apostle Paul's instruction to the church:
I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. II Timothy 4:1-5
