An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed at the end. Proverbs 20:21
I was raised in an upper-middle-class home with great parents. My dad was a hardworking man who went into business for himself and amassed a fortune in real estate, as well as a multimillion-dollar machinery and manufacturing business.
Married at sixteen, I didn't have any interest in higher education, so I entered the family business and learned the equipment business from my dad. At 24, my dad died and left me all of his assets, making me a wealthy man. This was a great mistake to leave an inheritance to someone who was not mature enough to handle it!
It didn't take long for me to sell out to my older brother for pennies on the dollar, and I squandered it on riotous living, making me a prodigal son! I ended up in our scrap yard with a cutting torch in my hand, addicted to cocaine in the hot Texas sun!
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24
