Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do. For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again, even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Philippians 3:17-19

Shortly after my salvation experience, one Sunday, I was invited to my pastor's home for lunch and to meet some well-known preachers and TV evangelists. Being a new believer, I was enamored with all these big names.
It wasn't long before a man from Alabama introduced himself to me, and out of nowhere, he said, "Come go with me, I want to show you something." I didn't want to go because I wanted to hear these preachers, but he insisted, and we left and drove to the southside of town, and behind an abandoned building, he showed me a cardboard box with a street man living in it.
This was my city, but I had never seen anything like this. I was insulated from the poverty of the world and had no knowledge of the poor or downtrodden. God was about to begin my training by showing me people with needs!
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself. Philippians 3:20,21
