James 3:8 says, "But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison." The night I was saved 45 years ago, God set my tongue free and delivered me from profanity! This was the first sign and wonder that validated my salvation!
Profanity can be caused by unforgiveness, hurt, and bitterness, and can lead to hate, rage, and even murder! We not only have to take every thought captive, but we have to consider every word we speak. The tongue often acts as though it is not connected to our mind; it acts as though it has a mind of its own out of control!
Ephesians speaks wisdom and warns us to let no corrupt word proceed out of our mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21
