Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ. Now, if we are afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effective for enduring the same sufferings which we also suffer. Or if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. II Corinthians 1:3-6

No one likes to suffer, but God uses suffering, not for us but for others to see how God brings us through it. Everyone has at some time or another comforted someone who is going through something that we have experienced.
If we haven't suffered, how can we comfort someone if we haven't experienced it first? I have known many who have had cancer, but until I was diagnosed with it, all I could do was pray for those who had it; but now I can tell people how God brought me through it. I know a woman who, for the thirty-eight years I have known her, has suffered greatly with multiple diseases and debilitating sicknesses.
I have never seen anyone suffer as she has, never complaining or grumbling or even mad at God, but she continues with her life in peace and never tells anyone of her pain! She has been an inspiration to me, and I praise God that she is my wife!
And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation. II Corinthians 1:7
