Now godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. I Timothy 6:6-10

Food, shelter, and rest, we are blessed, as a friend used to say. In America, we are blessed abundantly above many countries of the world. Poverty is, in most cases, curable because there are many organizations that can provide for the poor in this country; the problem is that most are too lazy to find out what is available.
When God called me into the ministry and anointed me for service 45 years ago, I gave up everything and had to learn to live by faith, and God proved that He is faithful to provide all of our needs according to His riches in glory. Even when we had residential ministries for drug addiction, up to 35 at a time, God always came through.
Today, people are inundated with the temptation to accumulate wealth and treasure, of which many, as the word states, strayed from the faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. Contrary to popular belief, the love of money is a root, not the root of evil, but it can and does ruin the lives of many!
But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I Timothy 6:11,12
