Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth Your praise. For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it, You do not delight in burnt offering. Psalm 51:14-16

David was asking to be delivered from the sin of murder which under the law in the Old Testament carried the sentence of death! This heinous sin angered the Most High in which He pronounced judgment on the house of David forever!
Adultery was also a sin worthy of the death sentence, but God in His mercy forgave them both, but the consequences of David's actions and immoral behavior followed him to the grave! All Hell broke out in his family with rape, death and betrayal among his children leading up to David being expelled and exiled from his own kingdom!
The danger of harboring sins in your heart opens the door for demonic activity, even possession, something most believers don't understand. Forget Hollywood and all the horror shows exhibiting demon possession, when the devil has ground in your life, he possesses you and holds you in captivity! Beware lest he takes you captive in your sin!
And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all able to teach, patient in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance so that they may know the truth and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. II Timothy 2:24-26
