I believe I have surpassed the seven times to fall, even though I am a born-again Spirit-filled servant of the Most High. The devil is always lying in wait like a lion in the forest waiting for a kill! There have been several times that he has tried to plunder my resting place with his traps and schemes.
We have all fallen at some time or another in our journeys with Jesus, but we must strive to get up, dust off our armor, and stay in the fight! King David was a man after God's own heart, a psalmist, a warrior, and a gifted writer. He was also a target of the enemy. The devil sent Goliath to kill him, Saul, who tried numerous times to destroy him, but to no avail, not to mention the many battles he fought in.
David was tired; he had fought many battles, and the devil had tried and tried to kill him until he was burned out, a dangerous place for a man of God. David thought he would rest by not going to battle with his armies, so he stayed behind, took off his armor, laid down his sword, and fell into a deadly trap that almost cost him his life!
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. I Peter 5:8-9
