"Let our master now command your servants, who are before you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit (demon) from God is upon you, and you shall be well." I Samuel 16:16
"Let our master now command your servants, who are before you to seek out a man who is a skillful player on the harp. And it shall be that he will play it with his hand when the distressing spirit (demon) from God is upon you, and you shall be well." I Samuel 16:16
David, a man after God's own heart, according to Saul's servants: a skillful musician, a man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, handsome and the Lord is with him, he was to be chosen to be the man to play for Saul.
Music has been used in deliverance and played for those who are sick or dying in the past and it does help in some circumstances, but I haven't seen much success in casting out demons! Saul was demon possessed and in need of God's hand to deliver him, not a kid with a harp! But this was the beginning of a longstanding relationship of friendship, fatherhood and pain for David!
David was sent by his father Jesse to take provisions for his brothers who were on the battlefield and when he showed up his brothers disdained him and accused him of leaving the flock of sheep to come and see the battle. Nevertheless, Saul's servants took him before the king to play for him as he was in torment by the demon!
And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon Saul that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would become refreshed and well and the distressing spirit would depart from him. I Samuel 16:23
