Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible. Hebrews 11:1-3

The entire universe was called into existence by God using the substance (physical material from which something is made, or which has discrete existence). In other words, faith is a material likened to clay that can be made into anything that one believes.
God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. This is faith in action, according to Romans 4:17. To create something that does not exist as though it did is using our faith to operate in supernatural power as God did when He created all things!
Faith without works is dead, according to James 2:17. Faith demands action in our personal ministry and relationship with Jesus. Without works, faith is of no use to the believer unless he believes!
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
