Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers; and they hated him even more. So he said to them, "Please hear this dream which I have dreamed: "There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Then behold, my sheaf arose and also stood upright; and indeed, your sheaves stood all around and bowed down to my sheaf." Genesis 37:5-7

An arrogant little Jewish kid smarting off to his older brothers wasn't the best of ideas but God gave him the dream and so he gave it! With his coat of many colors, I can see him flaunting it in front of all of them spouting off, "Daddy loves me more than you!"
God speaks to us in dreams and visions and sometimes they are way before they come to pass, as it was with Joseph who never thought he would be thrown in a pit, sold into slavery and put in jail or made a ruler in Egypt! Finally, his dreams came to pass when a famine drew his family to him unaware that he was a leader in Egypt to get food.
What a transformation from runt of the family to a prince of Egypt, God had brought him from pit to prison, to prince in a matter of years. Not only was the family reunited with their long-lost son, but their father received back his boy who he thought was dead! What a Mighty God we serve!
And Pharaoh said to Joseph, "See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt." Genesis 41:11
