Shortly after my salvation experience, I met a man from Mobile, Alabama who, unbeknownst to him, would become my mentor and friend. We were at a meeting at my pastor's house when he said to me come with me; I want to show you something.
We drove downtown, and behind a building there was a man living in a cardboard box. Keep in mind this was over forty years ago, and homelessness was not well known in our city as it is today in many cities. This amazed me; I had no idea, and the man I met came to me to disciple me in the ministry of the poor and needy!
We fed the poor and witnessed in apartment houses, prayed for the sick and cast out demons, and saw many miracles of God's grace. One of the last times I saw this man of God, Junior Neese, he was spending the night at our home and ministry when one of the boys in our program had his drug dealer drop off some dope in our mailbox. After everyone was in bed, he shot it all up and aspirated and died; he had been dead for hours.
I found him the next morning fully dressed, sitting on the couch with dried blood on his shirt, and so I called my wife, 911, and Junior, and we laid him out on the floor and prayed, and God raised him from the dead even before the ambulance arrived. PRAISE GOD!
He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds? Proverbs 24:12
