Don't ever think that you are strong enough to resist the seduction of a woman led by the devil to destroy you! King David was a mighty warrior, a man after God's own heart, the sweet psalmist of Israel, but still a man of flesh and blood.
David had multiple wives and concubines and could have any woman he pleased except another man's wife! One year, he stayed back from the war, being battle-weary, what we would call today, burned out. David was on his balcony, and his next-door neighbor's wife, Bathsheba, was naked, bathing in full view of the King. David had his servants bring her to his bed, and the next thing he knew, she was pregnant!
It blows me away that Uriah, Bathsheba's husband, lived next door to the palace, a common Gentile in the king's army. And David probably justified his adulterous affair because Uriah was a Gentile, but the fact of the matter was that God was not pleased, and the penalty was a double death sentence for adultery and murder. We would do well to take this message to heart and beware of the snare!
Remove your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house, lest you give your honor to others, and your years to the cruel one; lest aliens be filled with your wealth, and your labors go to the house of a foreigner; and you mourn at last, when your flesh and your body are consumed, and say: “How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised correction! I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me! I was on the verge of total ruin, in the midst of the assembly and congregation.” Proverbs 5:8-14
