He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Psalm 23:3
In Phillip Keller's book, "A Shepherd Looks at the 23rd Psalm" in which I highly recommend, he talks about when he was a shepherd in South Africa. His pastures were along a steep cliff on the ocean and although his pastures were lush and green some sheep, usually young ones would jump the fence only to fall to their death!
You have heard the expression, "The grass is greener on the other side of the fence!" But the truth of the matter is this, it is not always the best decision for us to cross over! The believer has a built in GPS to lead them, the Holy Spirit who along with our conscience leads us into all truth. Thats not to say we can't turn off our spiritual transponder, (a device that receives radio signals in aircraft that verify their position) and strike out on our own to the other side of the fence!
There have been many times I have veered off the trail of life but as I have found, the Holy Spirit always leads me back onto the narrow road that leads me back on the right track! Man has been given a will to choose whatsoever he may want in life; he can follow God, or he can go after the desires of his heart completely on his own but many times to his own demise!
"Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. "Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." Matthew 7:13,14
