Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, an acceptable day to the Lord? Isaiah 58:5
Is it a fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush, to spread out sackcloth and ashes? Would you call this a fast, an acceptable day to the Lord? Isaiah 58:5
There are many types and ways to fast, to pray and believe God for a request, for healing, and for casting out demons. Jesus told His disciples when they couldn't cast a demon out that this kind only comes out by prayer and fasting!
Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights when He began His ministry and when it ended, He was attacked by the devil but prevailed because of the anointing He had received! Fasting greatly enhances our ability to overcome the enemy in spiritual warfare and opens the heavens to us.
As we fast, God also says to add these things to our fasting, to remember those who are needy, the poor, and those who are oppressed, and to share our bread and bring into your home, the homeless.
"Is this not the fast that I have chosen: to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out, when you see the naked, that you cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?" Isaiah 58:6,7
