Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Psalm 51:7-9
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities. Psalm 51:7-9
Hyssop is a plant primarily associated with purification and cleansing. It was used in Egypt to apply the blood of a lamb to the doorposts, allowing the death angel to pass over. David was crying out for the blood to cleanse him of his crimes of passion and murder!
David knew that the blood would cleanse him, even from his heinous sins committed willfully against the Most High! For the believer, the blood of Jesus is available for us as we also cry out to be cleansed and forgiven!
In the garden, Adam and Eve hid themselves from God; David justified and schemed against God, but His mercy and grace were available to them, although both received consequences for their actions.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood, to be received by faith.” Romans 3:23-25
