Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven. Proverbs 23:4-5
Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away like an eagle toward heaven. Proverbs 23:4-5
These verses warn against the pursuit of wealth through excessive labor and the dangers of associating with stingy or ungenerous people. The imagery of riches “making themselves wings” and “flying away” emphasizes the fleeting nature of material wealth. The passage also cautions against sharing a meal with someone who is unwilling to give freely, as such interactions can lead to wasted time, effort, and words.
Over the past 45 years, God has taught me about money and how to live by faith and not by my own works. New Christians tend to storm the world for souls or lay hands on anything that moves, and so did I. Zeal without wisdom will wear you out, but over time patience wore me down, and I began to let go and let God!
Once you let go and figure out that God is your banker and He owns it all and knows our needs before we do, you will have peace and not fear and anxiety about where your next meal is coming from. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding, and you will do well!
Do not eat the bread of a miser, nor desire his delicacies; for as he thinks in his heart, so is he. “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. The morsel you have eaten, you will vomit up and waste your pleasant words. Proverbs 23:6-8
