This supernatural gift of discerning spirits is most valuable for us to be able to tell where the enemy lies and be able to defeat him. There have been many times this gift helped me in the deliverance ministry over the years to discern who I was dealing with!
First of all, demons are liars, and they will lie, deceive and try and trip you up in order to take advantage over you. One day I was attempting to cast a demon out of a woman who was speaking in a male voice so feeling a little cocky I commanded the demon to bow his knee before the Lord Jesus! Being new to the ministry of deliverance I was testing my skill whenthree times the demon cried out no to my command. Feeling disillusioned by my lack of authority the Holy Spirit whispered in my ear, "He's bowed three times, what else do you want him to do?"
Praise God I never questioned again the power and authority given to us by the Lord Jesus! We as the body of Christ must restore these gifts in order to defeat the powers of darkness that continually attack and, in many cases defeat the church of the living God!
"Behold, I have given you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you." Luke 10:19
