Therefore, when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's supper. For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry, and another is drunk. I Corinthians 11:20, 21

Therefore, when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's supper. For in eating, each one takes his own supper ahead of others; and one is hungry, and another is drunk. I Corinthians 11:20, 21

Sounds like trouble in paradise while the apostle Paul attempts to explain and teach the Corinthian church about taking the Lord's supper. The Lord's supper was supposed to be a love feast, a time of true fellowship and a remembrance of what Jesus had done for us.

Today it has been downsized to a short prayer and a prepackaged plastic cup of grape juice and a nickel sized wafer. No thought or memory of what the Savior did for us, just take the cup and get on with the service. Service always reminded me of the full-service gas stations of the past, you pull up to the pump and they would wash your windshield, check your oil, fill up your tank and away you went!

So it is in many church services, sing a song, listen to a Message, take up an offering, pray a prayer and go to lunch! If we made love to our spouse like we do church, there would never be any children. Communion should be a solemn time of reflection upon our Lord and one another, loving our God and those with us in fellowship.

Therefore, whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this reason, many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep. (dead) I Corinthians 11:27-30
