The number twelve represents the government of God and Jesus was setting up His kingdom upon the earth with twelve apostles, all master builders but one. After Jesus ascended the apostles chose one more to complete the government, Matthias, who took Judas place. Note: Revelation 21:10-27
This was the beginning of a new and living way for God's new kingdom on earth and His new creation church. Jesus gave these apostles His power to heal and authority over the demons and even the power to raise the dead. Contrary to popular belief the power of God in us did not pass away but remains today for His church to carry on His mission.
People would like to make you think that the gifts, power, and authority were just available to the twelve but that is not true, we as His body in the earth have all the attributes and power as the Lord Jesus had when He was on the earth! Don't believe them!
"As you go, preach saying, 'The kingdom of Heaven is at hand.' "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give" Matthew 10:7,8
