But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostle's feet. But Peter said, "Ananias why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?" Acts 5:1-3

It was no longer church business as usual because now the temple of God was in the heart of the people and the presence of God dwelt among them! Within the Holy of holies in the ark of the covenant was the very presence of a holy God and it would kill anyone who approached it with sin in their heart including the High Priest or if anyone touched it.
When King David attempted to bring the ark to Jerusalem, he had it carried on an oxcart not on the shoulders of the Levites. When the oxen stumbled Uzza reached out to steady it and immediately dropped dead. Now that the new supernatural body of Christ contained the Presence it was again to be considered holy and dangerous to approach it in an unworthy manner.
When Peter confronted Ananias about lying to the Holy Spirit, he immediately fell down dead and later when his wife was confronted, she also fell dead! This brought great fear upon the church and respect for God's holy Presence!
So great fear came upon the church and upon all who heard these things. Acts 5:11
