Surely You set them in slippery places; You cast them down to destruction. Oh, how they are brought to desolation, as in a moment! They are utterly consumed with terrors. As a dream when one awakes, so, Lord, when You awake, You shall despise their image. Psalm 73:18-20

The Rich Man and Lazarus is a parable told by Jesus, found in Luke 16:19-31. It contrasts the lives of a wealthy man who lived in luxury and a poor beggar named Lazarus who suffered at his gate. After death, Lazarus is comforted in Abraham's bosom, while the rich man finds himself in torment.

This parable teaches about the consequences of one's actions regarding wealth and compassion, emphasizing the importance of caring for the needy and the finality of judgment. It serves as a warning against ignoring the needs of others and highlights the sufficiency of God's word.

“The time came when the beggar died, and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side." The rich man also died and was buried. In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So, he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, and you are in agony. And besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’ Luke 16:25-26
