Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." Exodus 32:1
Now when the people saw that Moses delayed coming down the mountain, the people gathered together to Aaron, and said to him, "Come make us gods that shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." Exodus 32:1
Moses had ascended the Mountain to meet with God and receive the ten commandments and the children became anxious! With the shepherd gone the wolf was in the sheepfold about to rob kill and destroy God's flock!
The people surrounded Aaron wanting him to make an altar with a golden calf to worship and so they handed over their gold to him and he molded their idol where they were about to corrupt themselves! It's a fact that sheep are the only animals that require a shepherd, unable to care for themselves and are wide open for attack from their enemies. This is why God calls us sheep!
For us as the sheep of the Lord Jesus' pasture we are to submit under His Lordship for provision, protection and deliverance from our enemies. The children of Israel on the other hand were stiff necked rebellious goats and not sheep and God told Moses He wanted to destroy them! Aren't you glad we are not like them? LOL
And the Lord said to Moses, "I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people! Now therefore, let Me alone that My wrath may burn hot againstthem, and I may consume them. And I will make you a great nation." Exodus 32:9.10
