To gird your waist with truth is to study to show yourself approved of God, handling accurately the word of truth as the apostle Paul instructed Timothy! Without knowing the Word, it opens you up to deception that the devil will use against you.
The breastplate of righteousness not only guards your heart, but it is also knowing who you are in Christ. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, the first scheme of the devil was to have Jesus doubt who he was by saying, "If you are the Son of God, turn this stone into bread!" Was there any doubt?
If you can be convinced by your enemy that you are not a born-again Spirit-filled believer, he can deceive you and stop your forward motion in battle! To shod your feet is to ready yourself for battle as a horse who is shod, the gospel is a part of your armor, as the horseshoe is nailed to the horse!
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, II Corinthians 10:3,4
