As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. Proverbs 27:17
Like a polished sword, we sharpen our friend's heart by the ministry of the Holy Spirit. If they are down or depressed, we lift them up so that they can again be refreshed and restored in the Spirit.
David and Jonathan had a relationship where they could build up and encourage one another, even when Saul, Jonathan's father, was out to kill David. They were knit together in the Spirit that created a "soul tie." Not all soul ties are bad; marriage creates a soul tie as well as a close friendship that David and Jonathan had.
Do you know someone who is depressed or crushed in their spirit from a death, divorce, or a sickness? If so, pray for them and allow the Holy Spirit to heal and deliver them from whatever is causing their ailment. Let the iron in your spirit sharpen the iron that has become dull and in need of healing.
"As soon as he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as his own soul." I Samuel 18:1
