So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go. Exodus 3:20
Imagine the enormity of this mission, to lead three million people out of the bondage of Egypt on a fourteen-day journey that took forty years! Without God it would have been totally impossible but with Him it was achievable!
The Egyptians were a formidable force to be reckoned with, but the children of Israel were a stiff necked and rebellious lot as Moses would find out in the wilderness. Think about what was going on in the minds of all these slaves under restraint for hundreds of years, fear must have wreaked havoc on them wondering about this Moses, if he was in fact a leader sent by God or not!
I am not so sure that Moses was anything like Charlton Heston in the Ten Commandments, a mighty warrior and builder of cities, but in reality, a meek and quiet man, slow of speech, unlike what the movie portrayed. No matter, when God began to display His miraculous power Moses was energized and confident of his mission.
Then Moses said to God, "Suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, 'The Lord has not appeared to you.' " Exodus 4:1
