Then it happened one evening that David rose from his bed and walked on the roof of the king's house. And from the roof he saw a woman bathing, and the woman was very beautiful to behold. II Samuel 11:2
David decided not to go to war and stayed home, maybe burn out after all the battles, or maybe his father-in-law's demonic desire to kill him, but nonetheless David was wide open for an attack from his unseen enemy, the lust of the eyes! No, not David, the sweet psalmist of Israel, a man after God's own heart, mighty warrior?
Every man and woman is susceptible to the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the boastful pride of life, even David as we see, he gazed upon his neighbor's beautiful naked wife! This is how the devil gains entry to our mind, through the windows of the soul, our eyes! Once your eyes lock on to something or somebody that your heart desires, you have a choice, continue to look until your body begins to react or as the Word says: "Flee youthful lusts!"
After all, admiring a beautiful human body that God created is fine and he would want you to be able to gaze upon his handiwork, wouldn't He? No, because His word says we are not to look upon a naked person unless we are married to them. Ever since Adam and Eve's fall in the garden this has been so! David knew the word but let his guard down and allowed lust to take over, even to the point of sin!
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world. I John 2:16
