So they set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab drove the new cart. II Samuel 6:3
So they set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab drove the new cart. II Samuel 6:3
David was going to bring up the ark of the covenant to the City of David and so they put it on a new cart and sang and danced playing music and the oxen pulling the ark stumbled and Uzzah put out his hand to steady it and God was angered and struck him dead!
The ark of God had only one way to carry it, and that was by the Levites, carried on their shoulders with the poles in the rings on the ark. To touch the ark meant certain death for those foolish enough to touch it! There is much to learn about God's holy presence and our behavior toward it as David quickly learned.
The fear of the Lord came upon David with the death of Uzzah and he dropped off the ark at house of Obed-Edom. When David finally obeyed the Lord and brought the ark into the city on the shoulders of the Levites he danced before the Lord wearing only a lined ephod and his wife Michal rebuked him and the Lord struck her barren!
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. II Samuel 6:15
