For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you will hear His voice: “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, as in the day of trial in the wilderness, when your fathers tested Me; they tried Me, though they saw My work. Psalm 95:7-9
Israel grumbled, complained, and whined for 400 years in Egypt, making bricks in the hot sun and crying out for deliverance. This may have been why God waited so long to answer their cries! Finally, He sent Moses to deliver His sheep, who turned out to be goats!
With signs, wonders, and miracles, God sent plagues upon the Egyptians until Pharaoh let the children of Israel go! The last plague was the death angel who killed the firstborn of the Egyptians, including Pharaoh's son. Israel was told to smear the blood of a lamb over their doorposts, and the death angel would pass over, sparing them, a type of Jesus!
Moses led them across the Red Sea as God parted the waters, and they walked out onto dry land into the wilderness. The sheep of God's pasture turned a two-week journey into forty years of whining and complaining, and never were able to enter the promised land, including Moses, who died in the desert after throwing a fit over their complaining about water. Aren't you glad we are not like them?
For forty years, I was grieved with that generation, and said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, and they do not know My ways.’ So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ Psalm 95:10-11
