Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit, then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You. Psalm 51:12,13

When one sins against God his joy and peace is stolen, and he becomes fearful of his spiritual condition. A very dangerous place to be in the darkness of iniquity! Our sin cuts off our communication with God and grieves the Holy Spirit.

David lost his joy and was asking for the joy of his salvation to be restored and to again discern the presence of His Holy Spirit. When one confesses and repents of his sins immediately the joy of the Lord returns, and the peace of God again fills his heart and soul! It is hard to preach the gospel when you are in sin because you are under constant conviction and the anointing seems to be non-existent!

Remember David said that his sin was ever before him, in other words the conviction of his transgressions never left him leaving him in depressed and in a fearful place. Once he confessed and repented the forgiveness of God returned and the joy of the Lord was again his strength!

"I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in Heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance." Luke 15:7
