"Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27
The Hebrew word for peace is Shalom and when you greet someone or say goodbye you are literally saying, may you be full of well-being, or may health and prosperity be upon you. Jesus was saying to you in this scripture, "Shalom."
Shalom reassures our heart that we should not fear or be troubled about anything. Every situation that we endure or hardship that we suffer holds the promise that God is in control. He is our very present help in trouble always there for us in any circumstance.
We are the sheep of God's pasture, and it is He who watches over us, the word says He never sleeps nor slumbers, so He is always alert and ready to come to our need! God is omnipresent, everywhere at once so He never loses sight of us, and He knows what we need before we even ask.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace (shalom) of God which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6,7
