Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. Ephesians 6:16

When young David, shepherd boy, sweet psalmist, and a man after God's own heart, approached a nine-foot-tall behemoth of a man called Goliath with only a sling, he was verbally attacked by the giant!

The devil is a coward and frequently uses verbal attacks against our character and our position in the Lord, even trying to get us to doubt our salvation. Goliath used that very thing, trying to terrify this young warrior and turn him away from the battle. But You, O LORD, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head. Psalm 3:3

David resisted the verbal abuse, and he took a stone and hit the giant square in the forehead, knocking him down, and then took Goliath's own sword and cut off his head for all to see, and the enemies of Israel scattered!

For the weapons of our warfare are not 1carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. II Corinthians 10:4-6
