Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51;10,11

Create a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit in me, the request David made to God for his transformation from sinner to saint! Although men were not born again in those days, their hearts could be renewed by confession and repentance. Forgiveness of sin cleanses the heart and produces a steadfast spirit.

Steadfast means resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering, in other words he would no longer be a double-minded man! The same is true today when one is born again or one who is lost turns to God with confession of their sins and repentance, a spiritual transformation occurs, and old things pass away, and all things become new!

David also cried out to God not to take His Holy Spirit from him because he knew he had grieved Him and fear of losing His precious anointing was troubling him greatly! David was dealing with the blood of bulls and goats, but we who are born again are cleansed with the blood of Jesus, something we should be fearful of putting to shame!

For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice (the blood of Jesus) for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation (Hell) which will devour the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26,27
