"But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger." Luke 15:17

The Texas summer can be brutal and in a scrap yard with a hot torch in your hand it is much worse. This was my pigpen, a scrap yard next to the manufacturing plant that I used to own. I would cut scrap metal and sell it and then buy a gram of coke, and this went on until I became allergic to it!

I remember seeing people that knew me driving by the scrap yard in their Lincolns and Mercedes while I toiled in the hot sun, but no one ever stopped, they just drove by without looking. All my pride had evaporated in the heat, so it really didn't bother me that no one cared. My friends ignored me like I had the plague, but I still didn't think I had a problem!

At the end of my career in the equipment business when I still had the money to maintain a $2000.00 a week addiction, my brother and I went to make a proposal to auction off a large meat plant in Dallas. Sitting in his Cadillac with a bag of coke the size of a Polish frank with a straw in it I finally thought to myself, I think I have a problem.

Needless to say, when I went in and made the proposal my nose was running and it looked like Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer and I lost the deal! God was beginning to deal with me. After the auction proposal went sour, I began to run out of money and sold jewelry, my guns and anything I could sell to buy drugs at pennies on the dollar. One night I sold a $1200.00 ring to buy a $100.00 gram of coke, and this led me to the pigpen!

"I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against Heaven and before you, "and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants." Luke 15:18,19
